Safety and Risk Engineering

Who are we?

One of GL Noble Denton's key areas of expertise is Safety and Risk management for the oil and gas industry.  With key offices in Aberdeen, Houston, Kuala Lumpur and our global centre of excellence in Loughborough, our expertise is underpinned by full-scale major hazard testing carried out at our Spadeadam test site, allowing us to provide customers with cost effective safety and risk management solutions.

Our offices in Loughborough and Aberdeen include Safety and Risk teams totalling circa 40 specialist engineers, amongst them a number of industry recognised world experts - through growth we are currently recruiting graduate safety and risk assessment engineers to deliver an exciting range of safety work, both to clients in the UK and overseas.

What would make me suitable?

Chemical engineering, physics, mathematics and other scientific numerate discipline degrees are all extremely relevant to the work of a Safety & Risk specialist. Whichever discipline you graduate from, you will need an inquisitive mind, thrive on applying innovative solutions to complex problems and relish the challenge of juggling the delivery of multiple customer projects.

You'll be encouraged to develop both broad and specialised safety related skills - giving you a wide overview of relevance to the industry within which we work alongside key skill areas which require focus for successful project delivery.  As a graduate engineer this provides a unique opportunity to learn and develop Safety & Risk related skills through a mixture of training, mentoring and delivery of real customer projects working alongside our experts.

We will support your development to help you gain professional accreditation with bodies such as IChemE, IGEM, SARS, IOP or the IMA amongst others.

You'll possess a passion for ongoing personal development, enhancing your skills, knowledge and expertise to become either a technical expert, a manager of technical projects or maybe a leader of a team within your chosen field. Perhaps you will have the ambition to lead a business unit and help shape our future strategy and direction?

At GL Noble Denton the possibilities are endless. What can you make of them?

So what would I do?

As a Safety and Risk specialist you will work with both Oil and Gas operators and design houses, undertaking delivery of projects in areas including:-

  • Safety Case updates and development for offshore and onshore sites and pipelines
  • Hazard and risk decision support including options analysis, safety analysis of modifications to existing plant and/or infringements to codes of practice
  • Consequence and quantified risk assessment of major hazards, including fires, explosions, gas dispersion and smoke dispersion.

Your work will be varied and our in-house training will help you to develop the necessary skills to understand the layout and key processes associated with oil and gas assets, to gather information relevant to a safety assessment - to allow calculation of consequence and risk, and to undertake the studies using our own software and methodologies.  You'll also develop a wider understanding of safety in the oil and gas industry, potentially getting involved in HAZID / HAZOP type workshops with clients and undertaking site visits to gather specific information or discuss work activities with site staff.

We currently seek graduates to join our office in Loughborough. To find out more about exciting work you could be doing in Safety and Risk, click here or view our Spadeadam animation on YouTube (Ctrl + Click to view).
