Located in Cumbria UK, GL Noble Denton's renowned Spadeadam test site is a unique facility carrying out research and technical service work for the oil and gas, process and energy industries, construction industries as well as government agencies. Simulating real-world environments and incidents, the site's secure facilities has supported some of the world's most advanced destructive and non destructive tests for over thirty years.
Our team of on-site scientists and engineers have the operational expertise to construct and perform bespoke test scenarios for a broad assortment of equipment and materials, helping the industry to validate models and design codes and provide accurate test measurements.
We are looking to recruit an additional Project Engineer to join the team, supporting the Lead/Senior Engineers across a range of projects including the accidental release of hydrocarbons, explosions and gas dispersions and other major oil & gas tests.
The role will also take responsibility for managing the Hazard Awareness Course offering at GL Spadeadam including business development and profitability, dealing with clients as well as the general coordination of the courses both for external companies with live Spadeadam demonstrations and the running of at least two internal GL Hazard Awareness Courses per year.
- Attend client meetings, scope projects and assist in submitting pricing proposals and liaising with GL's Legal department as appropriate
- Carry out a wide range of Design and Construction activities to plan and conduct large scale experiments involving the accidental release of hydrocarbons, the effect of high explosives, performance testing of novel processes & standard testing of components and products
- Design and build of test rigs: write test procedures, carry out safety and pre-construction risk assessments, identify resources and occasionally prepare mechanical engineering designs and calculations
- Lead teams of staff and subcontractors to conduct experiments & provide test report results to client company, ensuring experiments adhere to current best practice & safety standards at all times whilst running to timescale and budget

Person Specification
To be successful in this role, and our business, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes:
Technical / Professional Expertise
- A specialist engineer, Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline
- Previous experience of working in the oil and gas industry (offshore or offshore) with particular experience of pressure systems, pipelines and flexible risers would be advantageous, but not essential
- Experience of successfully delivering engineering projects through full project life cycle
- Excellent IT skills - Proficient in use of Microsoft applications.
