From commissioning or acquisition of an asset, GL Noble Denton provide operational support, safety, integrity management and performance optimisation, right through to efficient, clean and compliant decommissioning. We use our skills and experience, coupled with a comprehensive suite of software solutions to enhance safe, efficient and reliable operations from subsea and deepwater production through to onshore oil, gas and LNG processing, transport and storage to transmission and distribution networks.

As a result of our continued growth, an exciting opportunity now exists for a materials engineer to join our team of multi-disciplinary engineers, providing consultancy services primarily to the oil and gas industry in the UK and worldwide.

This is a developmental opportunity, working alongside our asset Integrity experts, providing specialist consultancy on a variety of challenging customer projects.  Key accountabilities will include:

  • Undertake projects to deliver solutions to customers within agreed timeframes, costs and quality standards.  This may include the following:
    • Materials selection for oil and gas facilities
    • Materials testing and corrosion inhibitor selection
    • National Grid technical support in the materials area
    • Metallurgical failure investigations
    • Technical support on construction projects
    • Materials & corrosion advice and input to client projects
    • Support to Clients Written Schemes of Examination (WSoE) and Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Schemes

Person Specification

To be successful in this role, and our business, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes:

Technical / Professional Expertise

  • Honours Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science or Chemistry OR postgraduate degree in Corrosion, Metallurgy or Materials Science
  • Member of Institute of Materials Minerals & Mining (MIMMM) or Member of Institute of Corrosion
    or NACE Member
  • Demonstrable experience of working in the oil and gas industry on a broad range of materials/corrosion related projects. Experience will ideally have been gained working in a consultancy environment
  • A basic working knowledge of corrosion control and materials used for transmission and distribution pipeline systems
  • Knowledge of the upstream industry, its materials/corrosion issues and its main business drivers
  • A basic knowledge of pressure systems integrity management

  • Willingness to travel and work at various GL/customer locations both in the UK and abroad, when required
